Fixing the Cause

Business and capitalism are not the causes of our socioeconomic problems, they are in fact the answers. In fact, modern business leaders are the most important people in the sustainable future room.

Capitalism has helped 75% of our population. Even though we do believe it could be edited to become more accessible by everyone, we fail to see why something that has worked for 75% of the people should be abolished, when what we really need to do is work very hard to get the remaining 25% access to the benefits it brings. In America, we live in a system where many hard working couples cannot afford to have children, while many non-working people can't afford not to have them! This insanity must stop, and frankly, we are tired of seeing the "not so soft" bigotry of low expectations alive and well in our community.

It is a fact that community segments enjoying high levels of economic vibrancy face minimal amounts of poverty, crime, or lack of access to quality education, healthcare, transportation, housing, and healthy food. It is also a fact that increasing economic vibrancy in marginalized community segments reduces the hardships many of the residents face. However, the increases must be created and shared by those living there.

Our Story

Most gun violence is caused by lack of economic vibrancy which often results in young people not having a solid adult role model/mentor in their life they can trust. When there is no one there to provide the CapitalS required to create a sustainable future for themselves and or their families, they often have to turn to crime and violence.

The research is clear, young people who have access to the common CapitalS, do not want or need a life of gangs, drugs, and violence. At Impact CHS, CapitalS include, financial, intellectual, societal (education, character, the Golden Rule, critical thinking, connections, networks, etc., etc., ).

In true Marine fashion, when General James E. Livingston saw the extent of the problem in our community he rose to action and contacted his long time friend, Mr. Tommy Baker. Together, they created Impact CHS and challenged a group of diverse community leaders to come together to work on the problem.

Without access to "CapitalS" required to build a sustainable life, it is almost impossible for young people to achieve their hopes and dreams.

Impact CHS has been formed to provide access to all of the "CapitalS" to as many at risk youth as possible. We are achieving this by using our own "CapitalS" to create hundreds of lived experience mentors. Mentors who have walked a mile in a troubled youth's shoes, and have changed their lives and wish to give back.

We are not leaving it to chance that we can find hundreds of lived experience mentors, as with the help of like minded local NGOs, we are creating them.

What We Value

We value access. Access to the CapitalS required for everyone to benefit from Inclusive Capitalism. We value changing institutionalized norms. We value second chances. We value providing equal opportunity, not equal outcome, and we value teaching people to fish as opposed to giving people fish.

The people who have faced the problems that lead to gun violence are the best people to prevent the same thing from happening to future generations. However, they first must create a sustainable future for themselves, and for that they need access.

Providing that access is the work that Impact CHS values.

01

100% Volunteer Driven

Impact CHS is a 100% volunteer driven organization. It is founded upon the notion that if you are coming to CHS to take, you should leave; but if you are coming to give we will welcome you with open arms.

02

Zero Admin Overhead

Impact CHS has zero admin overhead. No salaries, no rent, no benefits, zero, zip, nada. Every penny raised goes to fund Brighton Cove and to help those in need in our community.

03

Being In Place

The majority of people that will solve the socioeconomic and environmental problems they face, are the people that face them. In Place means showing up for those people, and providing them with access to the CapitalS they need to succeed.

04

Boots on The Ground

The people at Impact CHS do the work. We have our boots on the ground, and we do not outsource the imperatives to anyone else.

05

Our Community

Impact CHS is about the greater Charleston region. We do not focus on other places. In Place means showing up for people that live in our community.

06

Results

We do not trade on platitudes or promises. We are a results driven organization that will not stop until our work is done. We love the community of Charleston, and we have a very large "dog in the fight".
